On Wednesday night at the Commonwealth Games 2026, Indian para-athletes brought glory to the nation with their powerful performances. India secured two important medals, which also boosted its position in the medal tally.

In the men's 100m T47 final, Dilip Gavit delivered a spectacular performance to clinch the gold medal. He clocked a time of 10.71 seconds, marking his season's best.

In the same event, Mohammed Basil also ran an excellent race, winning the silver medal with a time of 10.83 seconds. This was also his season's best performance.

Dilip Gavit Creates History

With this victory, Dilip Gavit has become the first Indian male athlete to win a gold medal in para-athletics at the Commonwealth Games.

He is the second Indian para-athlete overall to win gold in Commonwealth Games para-athletics, following Sharmila's gold in the women's shot put F57 event.

Dilip Gavit hails from Toran Dongri village near Nashik, Maharashtra. He has previously brought laurels to India on the international stage.

He won a gold medal in the men's 400m T47 event at the Asian Para Games 2022, which was India's historic 100th medal at those games.

Furthermore, he also proved his mettle by reaching the final of the men's 400m T47 event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
