Team India's head coach Gautam Gambhir broke his silence for the first time on Sanju Samson being dropped and revealed the team's future plans.
Gambhir spoke openly on the issue and explained the team management's future plan and the clarity that has been given to Sanju Samson in this regard.
Sanju Samson first failed in both matches on the Ireland tour and then was out for just 1 run in the first T20 against England.
Following this, he was dropped from the playing XI for the second T20. Later, when the team was selected for the T20 series against Zimbabwe, Sanju's name was not included.
After this decision, the selectors and head coach Gautam Gambhir were heavily criticized. Fans and cricket experts had questioned this decision.
After the team's defeat at Trent Bridge, Gautam Gambhir spoke clearly about Sanju Samson's role and his future.
He said, "First of all, the clarity that Sanju Samson needed has been given from my side. However, the conversation between a player and the head coach will not come out."
Gambhir made it clear that the conversation between him and Sanju will remain confidential and will not be made public.
Gautam Gambhir further stated that whatever contribution Sanju Samson has made to Team India cannot be ignored.
However, he also clarified that any player's selection depends on their current form.
Keeping the doors open for a return, Gambhir said, "There is no rule that Sanju Samson cannot make a comeback in this series."
The head coach emphasized that to maintain a place in the national team, it is extremely important to perform well consistently.
He said, "International cricket is completely a results-driven game. We go with the playing XI that we feel is the right combination and gives us good results."
Gambhir concluded by saying, "I think every player has to earn the right to play for India through their performance."
