Captain Gill Explains Reason for Defeat
After the match, Indian captain Shubman Gill said, "I think we were in the game until the 45th over. We conceded too many runs in the last three overs. That's where the match slipped from our hands."
Speaking on the strategy, he added, "We thought that if we had wickets in hand after 40 overs, we would stay in the match. But at the same time, we didn't want to fall too far behind in the game either."
Plan Was to Maintain Run Rate
Gill explained, "So I think after the powerplay, we started scoring runs and maintained the run rate around six or six and a half. If we had kept playing at that run rate and then scored 100-110 runs in the last 10 overs, anything could have happened."
Poor Bowling in Powerplay
Expressing disappointment with the bowling, Shubman said, "I think we didn't bowl well in this match, especially in the powerplay. I think we bowled too many bad balls in the powerplay."
Praising the English openers, he said, "Then the way both openers capitalized on the opportunity after the powerplay was truly tremendous. They gave us no chance to get back into the match."
Gill stated clearly, "And then in the death overs, as I said, they got way ahead of us. But there were many positives for us in the series, almost everyone scored runs and took wickets."
The captain highly praised Rohit Sharma's batting. He said, "I am very happy with Rohit bhai's batting today. I think the pitch got a bit slower towards the end. But I think the way he batted, it was really fantastic to watch."
