Nikay Chunav: BJP-Congress withhold list, tickets via phone
Jaipur |The electoral contest in 309 urban local bodies of Rajasthan has now taken a new direction. The politics has moved beyond ticket distribution to ticket concealment. Both major parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, have completed their candidate selection process but are refraining from making the official lists of candidates public.

Fear of Rebellion and New Strategy

There is a significant reason behind this move by both parties. The parties fear that discontent may rise among contenders after being denied tickets, which could lead to a situation of rebellion.

This unique strategy has been adopted to prevent this potential rebellion and to control the number of independent candidates.

Information via Phone, Direct Nomination

Both parties have given clear instructions to their local leaders. According to these instructions, selected contenders will only be informed of their selection over the phone.

They will then be asked to file their nominations directly. The party's official symbol will also not be made public; instead, it will be submitted directly to the concerned SDM office.

This strategy means that until the last date of nomination, which is Monday, August 31, it will not be clear who has received the ticket from which ward.

BJP's Calculated Move

The BJP has given top priority to the strategy of preventing rebellion along with candidate selection. As part of its strategy, the party is not making the complete list of selected candidates public.

No Chance for the Deprived

The strategy is to inform the decided contenders directly over the phone and have them file their nominations. The party symbol will be submitted to the concerned SDM office at the last moment.

This will not give the contenders who were denied tickets enough time to mobilize their supporters and file nominations as independents.

Efforts to Pacify the Disgruntled

Simultaneously, efforts to pacify potentially disgruntled contenders within the party are in full swing. Senior party leaders are personally contacting such leaders in an attempt to placate them.

In areas where the possibility of discontent is high, damage control plans are being implemented considering the local equations.

State President Confirms

BJP State President Madan Rathore said that for the divisions where meetings regarding tickets have been held, the respective in-charges have been authorized for the symbols of the wards in those bodies.

He stated that now, every activity from the candidates' list to the nomination process will be monitored at the level of these in-charges.

Congress on the Same Path

The Congress has also adopted the strategy of withholding the list to reduce the risk of rebellion. Deciding on tickets has been a major challenge for the party due to the thousands of applications received from across the state.

Threat of Independent Nominations

The Congress leadership fears that if the list is made public, contenders denied tickets might protest and file nominations as independents in large numbers.

Therefore, the state Congress leadership has instructed the district presidents and prominent leaders not to make the candidates' list public as far as possible.

Disclosure through Press Conference

In all districts of the state, including Jaipur, selected contenders are being instructed over the phone to file their nominations. Preparations are underway to submit the party symbol directly to the Sub-Divisional Officer's office on August 31.

Only after the nomination process is complete will the district in-charges of the respective districts make the information about the authorized candidates public through a press conference.

Strategy to be Decided Locally

State Congress's Central War Room Chairman, Jaswant Gurjar, says that the party has provided the symbols to the district in-charges.

He said, "Now, the decision to release the list or to give the symbols directly to the Sub-Divisional Officers will be taken by the district in-charges at the local level according to their strategy."
