Kolkata | Another famous face has stepped from the world of Bollywood into the corridors of politics. Actress and social activist Shanaya Sharma has been appointed as the National General Secretary (Women's Wing) of the Bharatiya Janata Mazdoor Cell (BJMC). The announcement was made in Kolkata on Thursday.
Strategy to Strengthen the Organization
BJMC, which is the BJP's wing working for unorganized sector workers, considers this appointment a part of a larger strategy. Its main objective is to further strengthen its hold among unorganized laborers and women.
The announcement was made in the presence of the organization's National President, Dr. Arnab Chatterjee, and senior officials from West Bengal. This move sends a message of bringing women forward in leadership and focusing on labor welfare.
Shanaya Sharma, known in the film industry as an actress, model, and producer, has also been active in social work. She described this new responsibility as a great honor and duty.
Receiving this responsibility in a land like Bengal, which has a deep tradition of 'Shakti-Upasana' (worship of power), is a matter of pride for me. I pledge to work for the respect of laborers and workers in the unorganized sector.
Sharma said that this role would provide her with an excellent opportunity to translate her social commitment into concrete action. She also mentioned drawing inspiration from the women around her.
"Shram Samman" Campaign to be Strengthened
On this occasion, BJMC National President Dr. Arnab Chatterjee welcomed Shanaya Sharma, stating that the new team has been formed to represent every region of Bengal.
He said it includes everyone from unorganized workers to professionals. Dr. Chatterjee expressed confidence that Shanaya's inclusion would further strengthen BJMC's "Shram Samman" (Respect for Labor) campaign.
Several prominent leaders, including West Bengal Women's Wing President Maya Bag, State General Secretary Wasim Ahmed, and Vice President Mantosh Deb, were present at the event.
A Touch of Glamour in Politics
This appointment is part of a strategy often adopted by political organizations, where a popular face is associated with grassroots issues to increase reach and visibility.
Making a film personality the face of its women's wing, especially in a politically significant state like West Bengal, is seen as a well-thought-out strategy by BJMC. It will help in amplifying the message of labor welfare and women's participation.
The organization has clarified that it will continue to expand its welfare programs for unorganized workers across the state, with a special emphasis on women's participation.
