According to information, the Municipal Council has set a target of planting 8,000 saplings in the city. A tender of about 8 lakh rupees has been issued for this.
This matter has come to the forefront in a garden being developed near the airstrip on Shivganj Road. Here, dry twigs were seen planted in the dug pits instead of green saplings.
Questions Arising on the Scheme
Local people allege that this could be a well-thought-out plan. They say that dry twigs have been planted by the contractor, which can be removed after some time by saying that the 'saplings have dried up'.
In this way, an attempt can be made to receive full payment for the work without planting any saplings. This is a major fraud with the plantation drive.
Minister and MP Were Also Present at the Event
The matter of concern is that the work of this garden started on July 9. On the occasion of the launch of the plantation program, public representatives like State Minister Otaram Devasi and MP Lumbaram Choudhary were also present.
The Municipal Council is planting saplings at several locations in the city including Shivganj Road, Goyli Road, Goyli Chauraha to Teen Batti Road, and Arvind Pavilion. Fencing is also being done for the protection of the plants.
Commissioner Assures Investigation
When Municipal Council Commissioner Jodharam Bishnoi was spoken to about this whole matter, he said, "If the saplings have dried up anywhere, it will be investigated."
He also assured that, "New saplings will be planted wherever required."
Now it remains to be seen how long the investigation in this matter will be completed and whether any action is taken against the culprits.
