Superintendent of Police Takes Strict Action
Considering the seriousness of the incident, Superintendent of Police Harishankar has suspended the accused constable with immediate effect. The department has taken a strict stand against the accused.
Dismissal Process Initiated
The SP stated that the process of dismissal to terminate the constable's police service has also been started. There is no place for such acts in the department.
According to the report filed at the Kotwali, on the night of September 15, around 11:30 PM, the accused Harikishan entered the house of Rajan Singh, a resident of Bhagat Singh Colony.
Theft of Cash and Goods
The accused stole 15,000 rupees in cash kept in the house. After this, he also tried to run away with a gas cylinder from the house.
Attempt to Escape by Showing Weapon
When the owner of the house found out, he chased him. To escape, the accused allegedly brandished a 'kapa' and started running away, leaving the cylinder on the way.
Public Caught the Accused
Hearing the noise, nearby people and passers-by also ran after the accused. People caught him near the Police Control Room in front of the railway station.
At the same time, a patrolling police team reached the spot. People handed over the accused to the police, after which he was identified as a constable.
Drug Addiction and Compassionate Appointment
Preliminary investigation has revealed that constable Harikishan has become addicted to drugs. He was recruited into the police department under compassionate appointment.
Old Record of Indiscipline
According to the SP, complaints of indiscipline have been received against Harikishan earlier as well. Due to addiction, he was constantly involved in wrong activities.
Legal Action and Arrest
Kotwali CI Tejwant Singh said that a case of house-breaking and theft has been registered against the accused. Currently, he has been arrested for disturbing the peace.
The police will formally arrest him after the investigation in the theft case is completed. The process of departmental inquiry has also been intensified.
