Anoopgarh Farmers Block NH-911 Over Irrigation Water

Anoopgarh | Farmers' anger over the regular supply of irrigation water in Rajasthan's Anoopgarh and Gharsana regions is intensifying.

Demanding water for the sowing and ripening of Rabi crops, farmers have launched a major agitation on National Highway 911.

Road blockades and demonstrations have continued for the past two days near the 12 MD toll plaza.

Talks Between Administration and Committee Fail

Following an invitation from the administration, a 15-member core committee of the Khet Bachao Kisan Bachao Sangharsh Samiti reached Anoopgarh.

A marathon meeting took place between the committee members and administrative officials.

During the meeting, officials spoke with Water Resources Department Chief Engineer Amarjeet Meharda over the phone.

The crucial talks lasted until around 10:45 PM but failed completely, worsening discontent among farmers.

Deadlock Over Water Turns and Regulation

The primary dispute between farmers and the irrigation department centers on water regulation and turns.

  • Farmers demand six turns of water supply for sowing and maturity of Rabi crops.
  • They seek a decision for two additional turns after a review in January.
  • The irrigation department is offering regulation for only five turns of water.
  • The department has assured only one additional turn following the January review.

The significant gap between both proposals has kept the deadlock unresolved.

MP Hanuman Beniwal's Address and Departure

RLP supremo and Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal was present at the site to support the agitation.

Addressing the farmers, Beniwal heavily criticized the government's approach to the crisis.

Farmers of Gharsana and Rawla have been struggling for water rights for the past 25 years, but government obstinacy forces them onto roads.

Following the failure of talks, Beniwal departed for Nagaur with his convoy.

He clarified that only two days remain for nominations in the first phase of Panchayati Raj elections.

He assured that he would return to the farmers after two days to strengthen the agitation.

Traffic Disrupted, Commuters Face Inconvenience

The farmer agitation has completely crippled vehicular traffic on National Highway 911.

Main routes connecting Anoopgarh to Gharsana, Khajuwala, and Bikaner remain closed, halting bus operations.

Nearly 60 percent of routes operated by the Anoopgarh depot of RSRTC have been directly affected by the blockade.
