BRICS nations condemned the Pahalgam terror attack in the Delhi Declaration. Victims' families responded, demanding real action, not just resolutions.
The memories of the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, have been revived once again. The incident, which occurred in April last year, shook the entire nation, claiming the lives of 26 people.
Now, the strong condemnation of this attack at the 18th BRICS summit held in New Delhi has provided some solace to the grieving families.
The issue of the Pahalgam attack being raised at the BRICS summit has brought out the pain of the victims' families. While they have welcomed the government's move, they have also made it clear that they want concrete and real action against terrorism, not just resolutions.
Aishanya Dwivedi, who was widowed just a few days after her marriage, expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Her husband, Shubham Dwivedi, lost his life in this attack.
Speaking to ANI, Aishanya said, "On behalf of 26 families, I sincerely thank the Prime Minister. He raised a major issue like terrorism from India to an international level."
She added, "This shows that the government is honoring the sacrifice of our loved ones and will continue to take strict steps against terrorism."
Meanwhile, Shubham's father, Sanjay Dwivedi, also expressed satisfaction with the government's move. He said that the families are relieved to see that the Prime Minister and the government's fight against terrorism is now gaining global support.
However, he emphasized an important point. Sanjay Dwivedi said, "But terrorism does not end by just passing resolutions. Big countries also need to understand that real action is necessary."
The 'New Delhi Declaration 2026' was adopted at the 18th BRICS summit, which concluded in New Delhi on Saturday. The declaration made a special mention of the Pahalgam attack.
The declaration strongly condemned the attack that occurred on April 22, 2025, in which 26 people were killed and many were injured.
The BRICS leaders reiterated their commitment against terrorism and stated:
The declaration also emphasized reforms in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). China and Russia, who are permanent members of the Security Council, reiterated their support for giving more representation to India and Brazil.
The BRICS leaders supported reforms to make the Security Council more democratic, effective, and give more space to developing countries.
