Mount Abu | Continuous torrential rain in Mount Abu is now becoming a threat to old and dilapidated buildings. Late on Saturday night, the wall of a building over a hundred years old in Nakki Bazaar collapsed, causing a stir in the surrounding area. Fortunately, there is no news of any casualties in this incident.
The incident occurred in the northern part of Nakki Lodge, located in Nakki Bazaar. The building is said to be about a hundred years old and had been in a dilapidated condition for a long time. Due to the heavy rain, the wall of the northern part of the building suddenly collapsed.
The debris from the wall fell on the adjacent vacant land and on Vivekananda Park Marg. At the time of the accident, no one was present on the road or inside the building, which averted a major tragedy.
Building Dilapidated for Two Decades
According to information, the northern part of this building, which has seven rooms, had been in a dilapidated state for the last two decades. Its roofs and walls had split into two parts, and the foundation had also left the ground.
Reconstruction File Pending for Years
The process of reconstructing this dilapidated building had been stuck in government files for many years. The municipality had declared its northern part dilapidated in 2017 after a survey.
The file for the building's reconstruction had been pending with the Monitoring Committee since 2011. Subsequently, files with maps were submitted in 2017, 2020, and 2022, but the nodal officer did not issue permission.
After the revised Zonal Master Plan was issued following orders from the NGT and the High Court, an online file was also submitted on August 2025, which has been pending since then.
Administration Sets Up Barricades
Upon receiving information about the building collapse, the municipality's disaster relief team reached the spot late at night. The team took immediate action and barricaded the area to prevent any untoward incident.
