The long-standing drinking water problem in the extremely remote village of Shergaon in Abu Raj has been resolved. Through the collective efforts of the IIFL Foundation and villagers, water has been supplied to the village using solar energy.
Shergaon is located about 12 kilometers from Guru Shikhar. One has to cross a rocky and arduous climb to reach here.
Due to the lack of road facilities in the village, vehicles cannot reach it, making life very challenging.
Due to the absence of an electricity line in the village, villagers had to travel about two kilometers for drinking water. Women and men were forced to carry water on their heads, which wasted a lot of their time and energy.
Deputy Sarpanch Tarun Singh dreamt of providing drinking water facilities to the people of this remote village near their homes. His initiative was supported by the IIFL Foundation, which provided the necessary materials for this noble cause.
The foundation supplied large water tanks, hundreds of meters of pipes, and a complete solar system. After this, the villagers geared up to implement this plan on the ground.
Realizing this plan was not easy. The villagers carried heavy water tanks, pipes, and solar panel structures up the difficult hills on their shoulders and with their hands. It was a symbol of their determination and unity.
The problem of no electricity in the village was solved with solar energy. With the help of solar panels, a system was created that pumps water and delivers it to the village.
In this great work, Ward Panch Bhuraram, Kesar Singh, Bahadur Singh (Uttarraj), along with Lal Singh, Ganga Singh, Narpat Singh, Umed Singh, and Mukesh Singh, among many other villagers, worked day and night.
Expressing their gratitude to the IIFL Foundation for this initiative, the villagers said that this is not just a water facility, but an effort that will bring a big change in the lives of the people in the remote area.
This collective effort of Deputy Sarpanch Tarun Singh and all the villagers is being praised everywhere, as it has changed the face of a remote village.
