First, the tax, interest, and penalty were made zero.
Five months later, a notice for 5.5 lakhs in the same case.
The contractor accused the officer of harassment.
A demand for an impartial investigation has been made to the Finance Department.
Sirohi | A cleaning service contractor in Abu Road has leveled serious allegations against a senior officer of the State Tax Department. The contractor claims that he is being harassed by being sent a notice for five and a half lakh rupees five months after the tax, interest, and penalty in the same case were declared zero. In this regard, a complaint has been sent to the Finance Department demanding an impartial investigation.
What is the whole matter?
The case is related to Abu Road's cleaning contractor, Manojkumar Sendar. He has accused Assistant Commissioner Harchandram Chauhan of harassment. According to the complaint, someone filed a complaint against his firm on the Sampark Portal in December 2025.
On this complaint, the department issued a notice, in response to which the contractor submitted all necessary documents and fully cooperated with the investigation.
The contractor says he was not even told who the complainant was. After a full investigation, on December 15, 2025, the officer passed an order declaring the amount of tax, interest, and penalty as zero.
Allegation of Overturning the Zero Order
The matter escalated when the same officer issued another notice on May 27, 2026, about five months after the zero order.
This new notice demands five and a half lakh rupees. This time, the officer has cited Section 74, which relates to fraud and willful concealment of facts.
The contractor has questioned how an allegation of fraud can be made five months later when the case has already been declared zero and no new facts have emerged.
Manojkumar Sendar has alleged that the Assistant Commissioner not only sent him the notice but also shared information with the media, portraying it as a case of multi-crore tax evasion, which has damaged his reputation.
The contractor said, "All payments have come from the municipality, so every single penny is recorded in government records. In such a situation, there is no question of concealing facts."
He also alleged that there might be collusion between the complainant and the Assistant Commissioner, which is why the action is not being carried out impartially.
Demand for an Impartial Investigation
Regarding this entire episode, the contractor has appealed to the Finance Department for justice. He has made several important demands in his complaint.
His main demand is that the matter be investigated by an independent and impartial officer from outside Abu Road.
In addition, he has demanded a stay on the notice issued on May 27 until the investigation is complete, securing the case records at the headquarters, and a forensic audit of the documents. He has also urged for the suspension of the officers involved in the case.
This case has raised serious questions about the functioning of the tax department. It now remains to be seen what action the Finance Department takes on this complaint and whether the contractor gets justice.
