Yamuna Water Deal: BJP Invites Gehlot, Reminds Him of Promise
Jaipur | The 32-year-old dispute between Rajasthan and Haryana over Yamuna water has been resolved. After this historic agreement, the state's politics has heated up. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), calling it a major achievement, has invited former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to the welcome ceremony for CM Bhajanlal Sharma.

Yamuna Water Agreement: BJP's Invitation to Gehlot

Senior BJP leader Rajendra Rathore gave this information in a press conference on Monday. He said that Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma will arrive in Jaipur on Tuesday morning, where he will be given a grand welcome at the airport.

Rathore mentioned that former CM Ashok Gehlot has also been specially invited to this felicitation ceremony. He reminded Gehlot of his old statement.

BJP State President Madan Rathore also posted on X, appealing to Gehlot to honor his announcement. He said that this is a matter of public interest and he should rise above politics.

What did former CM Gehlot say?

Last week, during a media interaction in Jodhpur, Ashok Gehlot had spoken about the Yamuna water agreement. He had reiterated his old promise.

"I have said it before and I repeat it today, the day you bring Yamuna water to Rajasthan, I will personally come to the Chief Minister's residence to garland you. I still stand by this promise today."

However, he also added that meetings alone will not suffice; it is more important for water to actually reach the ground.

Targeting Congress's Double Standards

On this occasion, Rajendra Rathore accused the Congress of adopting double standards. He said that during the Haryana assembly elections, the Congress had promised in its manifesto not to give Yamuna water to other states.

Rathore stated that Gehlot was campaigning for the Congress in Haryana based on the same manifesto, which clearly shows his double standards.

Historic Agreement After 32 Years

This consensus on Yamuna water sharing has been reached after a long wait of 32 years. It was finalized in Delhi on Monday in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil was also present during this time.

This agreement has been made to resolve the dispute over the implementation of the original 1994 agreement. It is expected to bring great relief to the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan.
