Dhaka | Cricket Australia has announced its squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. Several surprising changes have been made to the team. Wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis has been handed the team's command as many senior players are not part of this tour.
This series will be a major platform for young Australian players to prove themselves. Besides regular captain Pat Cummins, experienced bowlers like Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will also not be playing in this series.
Seniors Rested, New Faces Get a Chance
Australia has rested several of its key players for this tour. This includes explosive opener Travis Head and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who are crucial members of the team.
The absence of these big names has opened doors for many young talents. The selectors have chosen a young team with an eye on the future.
Why are Head and Marsh out?
According to National Selector Tony Dodemaide, Travis Head was initially selected for both series but has taken leave for personal reasons.
Meanwhile, Mitchell Marsh has not yet fully recovered from his ankle injury. However, he is expected to join the team for the T20 series.
Big Opportunity for Young Players
Many new players will get a chance to showcase their talent on this tour. Spinner Todd Murphy, who has only played Test cricket so far, has been included in the ODI team for the first time. He replaces the injured Tanveer Sangha.
Additionally, Oliver Peake and Matt Short have been retained in the team. Fast bowlers like Ben Dwarshuis and Xavier Bartlett have also found a place in the squad, who will strengthen the team's pace attack.
Captain Josh Inglis believes this is a golden opportunity for the young players to prove their mettle. Despite the lack of experienced bowlers, there is no shortage of energy and enthusiasm in the team.
It will be interesting to see how this young Australian team performs in the challenging conditions of Bangladesh.
