Angered by the attack on a BJP leader in Jalore, people blocked the Jalore-Sirohi highway. The accused are still at large.
The main demand of the protesters is the immediate arrest of the attackers. Villagers had already warned that they would agitate if the accused were not caught by 5 PM on Thursday.
As per the warning, around 6 PM, people gathered at the Siyana bus stand under the banner of Shri Kshetrapal Vyapar Sangh and blocked the highway.
Police and administration officials arrived at the scene to control the situation. DMP Gautam Jain pacified the protesters and assured them of swift action, after which the blockade was lifted around 9 PM.
The incident took place on Wednesday evening when BJP Yuva Morcha's district spokesperson and lawyer Natwar Singh Rajpurohit was returning home in his car after finishing his work at the Jalore court.
Near Adwada village, between Akoli and Siyana, miscreants in two vehicles stopped his car and attacked him with sharp weapons.
When nearby people started gathering upon hearing the commotion, the attackers fled the scene.
The injured Natwar Singh was first taken to the government hospital in Siyana, from where he was referred to Sirohi and then to Ahmedabad for better treatment.
He has given his statement to the police while undergoing treatment in Ahmedabad. In his statement, he has accused Suryaveersingh, Surendrasingh, Shravan Purohit, and others of the attack.
Protesters say that despite the victim's statement being recorded, the police have not made any arrests yet, which has caused significant outrage in the community.
The people have warned that if the accused are not arrested soon, they will launch a larger agitation. A memorandum will also be submitted at the collectorate today regarding the matter.
