The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has busted another module of the terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed in a major operation. The agency has arrested five more suspected terrorists from Sidhpur and surrounding areas of North Gujarat.
This action is part of an ongoing investigation, under which eight terrorists associated with the same module have already been caught.
According to information received from investigating agencies, this terror module was planning to carry out large-scale serial blasts in the country. Their plan was to spread unrest in many parts of the country.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the masterminds of this entire network are Mohammed Ayub and Amin Shera. They are accused of ordering special chemicals and gunpowder, among other explosive materials, to execute their conspiracy.
Tested Explosions in Secluded Areas
The terrorists chose deserted places in rural areas to test their explosive capabilities and network. According to information, they also conducted tests by carrying out seven to eight small explosions to check the lethality of their homemade explosives.
Expanding Network in Rural Areas
The investigation has also revealed that the accused were slowly strengthening their network by staying in villages, away from the hustle and bustle of cities.
They believed that security agencies primarily focus on urban areas, so they could easily carry out their activities in rural regions. However, the Gujarat ATS had been secretly monitoring this entire module for a long time.
Attempt to Make a 'Time Bomb'
Public Prosecutor P. R. Dantani stated that the ATS has sought custody of the accused from the court. The ATS also informed the court that one of the accused had attempted to make a 'time bomb'.
According to the agency, materials used in bomb-making and Urdu literature related to Jaish-e-Mohammed are yet to be recovered.
Previous Arrests Were Also Made
Notably, on July 3rd of this year, the Gujarat ATS had arrested eight alleged members of Jaish-e-Mohammed from various areas of Gujarat and adjoining Madhya Pradesh. The police had then said that these accused were trying to establish an active terrorist network in Gujarat. Currently, all the arrested accused are being interrogated.
