After a 9-wicket loss in the fourth T20, captain Shreyas Iyer admitted that a score of 158 was not enough and young players need to learn quickly in foreign conditions.
The Indian cricket team faced a crushing 9-wicket defeat against England in the fourth T20 International match.
With this loss, the Indian team has also lost its second consecutive T20 series. After the match, captain Shreyas Iyer looked very disappointed with the team's performance and spoke openly about the reasons for the defeat.
Captain Shreyas Iyer said after the match, "It was a disappointing performance. A score of 158 was not enough on the board, and in the end, we saw how easily they achieved the target."
He also talked about his bowling plans. Iyer said, "When we came to bowl, I just told the bowlers to repeat the length as much as possible because it was difficult to bowl on the middle and leg stump."
Failed to Execute Plans
Iyer admitted that the team was weak in executing its plans on the field. He said, "I think we were a bit weak in implementing our plans. When we tried to change the pace or do something different, they got boundaries."
Indian Batting Collapsed Like a House of Cards
The performance of the Indian batsmen in this match was very disappointing. Many of the team's key batsmen returned to the pavilion cheaply.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi failed for the third consecutive match, scoring only 15 runs. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma also became a victim of Adil Rashid after scoring 16 runs.
Ishan Kishan's (4 runs) poor form continued, while Shivam Dubey could only make 22 runs in 23 balls. Tilak Varma contributed 11 runs, Washington Sundar 5 runs, and Axar Patel just 1 run.
Iyer's Lone Fight Went in Vain
While wickets were falling at one end, captain Shreyas Iyer stood firm at the other. He batted brilliantly, scoring an unbeaten 80 runs off 49 balls with the help of 4 fours and 5 sixes.
However, he did not get support from any other batsman at the other end, which resulted in the team failing to post a big score. Iyer said, "I am happy with my performance, but when it doesn't contribute to the team's victory, it doesn't mean much."
The captain defended the young players, saying that the team is in a phase of transition.
He said, "This is a transition phase, and we will make many mistakes. A lot of young players are playing in these conditions for the first time. These mistakes will help us understand how to adapt to foreign conditions. We need to learn quickly."
