Kanakpura station, the gateway to Western Jaipur, suffers from poor infrastructure. It lacks basic amenities like platform sheds, lifts, and escalators.
Platform facilities here are completely incomplete. There is neither an adequate shed for passengers nor has the facility of a lift or escalator been provided at the station.
The height and length of the platform are also not as per standards. This causes great difficulty for passengers, especially the elderly and differently-abled, in boarding and deboarding trains.
Approximately 200 trains pass through this station daily. However, only 16 of these stop here, most of which are local passenger trains.
Passengers demand that this station be developed as a suburban or satellite station. Along with this, the demand for a stoppage of important trains like Swarn Nagari Express is also gaining momentum.
Kanakpura station is located between major areas like Vaishali Nagar, Khatipura, Sirsi, Bhankrota, Chitrakoot, Heerapura, and Panchyawala. The number of passengers going to Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Ajmer from here is quite high.
Due to the lack of facilities and train stoppages, people from these areas have to go to Jaipur Junction, 14 to 20 kilometers away. This causes waste of both time and money for general and daily commuters.
The railway administration is busy rejuvenating stations like Jaipur Junction, Gandhinagar, Khatipura, and Sanganer. But Kanakpura's name is not included in the list of stations under the Amrit Bharat Scheme.
The scope of the foot overbridge is also very limited here. Due to the lack of ramp facilities, elderly and disabled passengers face problems. Accidents have also occurred here several times while crossing the tracks.
This station is connected to areas like Kuchaman, Nawa, Phulera, Sambhar, and Nagaur. Passengers say that if facilities are increased here, the passenger load on Jaipur Junction can be significantly reduced.
Currently, due to the incomplete shed on the platform, passengers have to wait for the train in the open during sun and rain, which is extremely painful.
