Serious Questions Raised on Police Functioning
More than 45 days have passed since a case was registered against the accused under various sections including the POCSO Act at the Sanchore police station, but the police have so far failed to arrest the accused.
Regarding this, the family of the minor victim has submitted a memorandum to the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police. The victim's father has warned that if the accused is not arrested soon, he will go on a hunger strike outside the District Collector's office.
The victim's father has also made serious allegations against the police. He said that despite filing the report and submitting all the evidence, the police are not arresting the accused, allowing him to roam freely.
What is the whole matter?
According to the report filed by the victim's father, the 65-year-old accused had been calling the teenager to his place for the past two years on the pretext of small chores.
In return for the work, he would give him 10, 20, or 50 rupees. Later, the accused claimed this money was a loan and pressured him to return 15,000 rupees.
When he failed to pay the money, the accused forcibly committed unnatural acts with the teenager. The investigation has also revealed that the accused had similarly trapped about 6 teenagers from the neighborhood.
The accused had committed misconduct 12 times with one victim. Later, when the accused demanded another 3 lakh rupees and threatened the family, the victim revealed the entire incident to his family.
Fear and Anger in the Victim's Family
Despite a named case being registered and digital evidence being provided, the failure to arrest the accused has created an atmosphere of fear and anger in the victim's family.
The victim's father stated that after the case was registered, the accused's son came to their house and threatened them, the CCTV footage of which has also been submitted to the police.
The family has demanded swift action in this serious matter, calling for the immediate arrest of the accused and police protection for the victim.
