Bikaner | Significant action has been taken in Bikaner as part of a special campaign run by the state's Food Safety and Drug Control Department. A team of Food Safety Officers raided an establishment in the Rani Bazar industrial area and seized a large quantity of the caffeinated beverage 'Red Bull'.

CMHO Dr. Pukhraj Sadh informed that the action was carried out under the direction of the department's commissioner, Dr. T. Shubhamangala. The team inspected the premises and warehouse of M/s Bothra & Sons.

During the inspection, the team took a sample of the caffeinated beverage Red Bull under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSAI Act).

608 Cans Seized Pending Test Report

Officials stated that as a precautionary measure, a total of 608 cans of the said product have been seized until the test report is received. The collected sample will be sent to the Public Health Laboratory in Bikaner for further testing.

Violation of FSSAI Rules

Dr. Sadh shed light on the reasons behind this action. He explained that according to the rules of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), it is prohibited to mention certain types of claims on the label of any caffeinated beverage.

These Claims Fall Under Misleading Advertising

According to FSSAI, claims such as “Stimulates Mind”, “Energizes Body”, “Energy Drink”, or “Sports Drink” fall into the category of misleading advertising.

On this very issue, FSSAI has also issued notices to several major beverage brands in the country, seeking clarification.

Can Adversely Affect Health

Dr. Sadh also mentioned that such high-caffeine beverages can have adverse health effects on certain groups. These include pregnant women, lactating mothers, children, and individuals who are sensitive to caffeine.

This action was taken to ensure compliance with food safety standards. After the investigation report is received, further legal action will be taken as per the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act. The team included Food Safety Officers Shravan Kumar Verma, Bhanu Pratap Singh, Surendra Kumar, and Rakesh Godara.
