In this festival, under the guidance of Go Rishi Dutt Sharananand Ji Maharaj, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Sadanand Saraswati Ji Maharaj delivered an important lecture on the context of Shri Ram's marriage.
Marriage: An Auspicious Union of Two Families
In his discourse, Jagadguru Shankaracharya presented a soulful and philosophical interpretation of the Shri Ram-Vivah episode. He emphasized that marriage is not just a relationship between two individuals, but a sacred foundation for the auspicious union of two families, their cultures, and traditions.
He beautifully described the wedding celebrations in Mithila after Shri Ram broke Lord Shiva's bow. Along with this, he also narrated the episode of King Dasharath's wedding procession arriving from Ayodhya.
Through these episodes, Maharajshri highlighted the deep-rooted values inherent in Indian wedding traditions. He shed light on important aspects such as dignity, dedication to family, the spirit of sacrifice, and social responsibility.
King Dasharath's Cow Donation and the Glory of the Cow
While discussing the marriage context, Shankaracharya Ji made special mention of King Dasharath's donation of one lakh cows. He explained that in Indian culture, donation is not merely a display of wealth or splendor, but a profound expression of public welfare and gratitude.
He spoke of the cow being given the status of a mother in the Indian perspective of life. He stressed the need to connect cow protection with a significant social and cultural responsibility.
He said that giving the cow the honor of 'Rashtramata' (Mother of the Nation) will further strengthen the spirit of its protection and service.
The Five Important Debts of Life
Maharaj also discussed in detail the Pitri Rin (debt to the father), Matri Rin (debt to the mother), Acharya Rin (debt to the teacher), Dev Rin (debt to the gods), and Samaj Rin (debt to society).
He explained that a person's life is not just their own. Expressing gratitude towards parents, teachers, nature, ancestors, and society is the true foundation of our values.
Message for the Youth
In the end, the youth were called upon to take inspiration from the lives of Shri Ram and Mother Sita. They were encouraged to adopt values of dignity, restraint, sacrifice, dutifulness, and family values in their lives. The event was attended by many saints including Rishichaitanyaji Maharaj, Chetanathji Maharaj, public representatives, and thousands of cow devotees.
