Rajasthan Polls: BJP Bets on Winnable, Congress Bars Outsiders
Jaipur |Just before the bugle sounds for the upcoming urban local body and Panchayati Raj elections in Rajasthan, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have intensified their electoral strategies. Both parties held marathon meetings at their state headquarters on Monday to set strict guidelines for candidate selection, changing the electoral equations.

BJP's 'Winnable' and Youth Strategy

The party's main narrative was decided in a high-level BJP meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and State President Madan Rathore. Several national office-bearers were also present in this meeting.

Ban on Recommendations and Nepotism

The BJP has clarified that no form of nepotism, pressure, or family recommendations will work in candidate selection. The sole criterion for a ticket will be the candidate's local influence and ability to win the election.

Priority for Gen-Z and New Faces

For the first time in local body elections, the party is working on the possibility of directly fielding active youths from Gen-Z (18 to 25 years old). The government's work and Congress's alleged misrule will be the main issues in the election.

Congress's Focus on 'Local Candidate'

At the state Congress headquarters, State President Govind Singh Dotasra, AICC in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully took feedback from district presidents and other leaders. Dotasra said they will go to the public with the government's failures.

'No-Entry' for Outside Candidates

In a major decision, Congress has banned outside candidates from contesting elections at the ward level. According to the rule, a contender can only contest from the ward where they are a registered voter.

Transparent Selection Process and Political History

This time, Congress has set digital criteria to make the candidate selection process transparent. Interested workers will have to apply both online and offline. In the application form, they will have to provide full details of their activism in the party, past positions, and electoral experience.
