After defeats in England and Ireland, BCCI is in action mode. Not head coach Gautam Gambhir, but fielding coach T. Dilip might be sacked. The board is preparing for changes in the support staff.
Following the Indian cricket team's disappointing performance on the tours of England and Ireland, the team is facing heavy criticism. The consequence of mistakes made by the team management and players in both series was that the Indian team could not win a single match in 7 T20 encounters. After this shameful performance, major changes are expected.
BCCI's Big Decision, Support Staff to be Reshuffled
According to media reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is not in the mood to take any action against head coach Gautam Gambhir, but is preparing to reshuffle the support staff. The board is unhappy with the team's performance and may take some tough decisions.
According to a report in the Times of India, bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate will remain with the team. It is being said that the board is fully satisfied with the work of both and wants to keep them with the team going forward.
Fielding Coach T. Dilip to Face the Axe?
However, the team's fielding coach T. Dilip might be let go. In the last few months, there has been a continuous decline in the standard of the Indian team's fielding, which is a matter of concern for the board.
On the tours of Ireland and England, players dropped several easy catches, which directly impacted the match results. These mistakes are being taken seriously.
Term Ending, Extension Unlikely
T. Dilip's two-year term is also coming to an end. He was appointed as the fielding coach during Rahul Dravid's time and his tenure was extended for one year in 2025. Given the current situation, the possibility of him getting another extension seems very slim.
Meanwhile, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the performance of the Indian men's T20 team will be reviewed after the England tour ends. He expressed concern over the team's current performance.
Devajit Saikia said, "It's very simple. The Indian T20 team is going through a bad phase in its matches, first against Ireland and now against England. That's why we have to conduct a review after this series ends."
He further added, "Currently, the men's T20 team is going through a bad phase in terms of performance. We need to see what difficulties they are facing, and after the series ends, we will definitely try to resolve it in a detailed review."
When will the review happen?
According to the BCCI Secretary, this review will take place immediately after the ODI series in England ends on July 19. In this review meeting, every aspect of the team's performance will be discussed in detail, and the future strategy will be decided, especially keeping in mind the important tour of New Zealand this year.
