Emergency: Murder of Constitution, Congress Not Free From Sin
Bikaner | The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a significant program on the theme "Emergency: Murder of the Constitution" at its divisional office in Bikaner. During this event, democracy fighters (MISA detainees) were honored and their struggle was commemorated.

The program was presided over by BJP city district president Suman Chhajed and rural district president Shyam Panchariya. The Emergency imposed on June 25, 1975, was described as the darkest chapter in the history of Indian democracy.

Emergency: A Dark Chapter of Democracy

The keynote speaker of the event and chairman of the Rajasthan Heritage Protection and Promotion Authority, Onkar Singh Lakhavat, recalled the era of the Emergency in his address. He said it was a cruel blow to the country's democracy.

Lakhavat explained that the Emergency was imposed out of fear of the election dispute of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the anti-corruption movement led by Jayaprakash Narayan. During this period, the fundamental rights of citizens were taken away.

'Congress Cannot Be Freed From Sin'

Onkar Singh Lakhavat launched a sharp attack on the Congress, stating that it can never be absolved of the sin of an anti-democratic act like the Emergency.

He said, "The struggle of the democracy fighters is a priceless heritage of the country. It is very important for the new generation to know the truth of the Emergency so that they can understand the value of democracy."

Lakhavat also mentioned that during the Emergency, many prominent opposition leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani were jailed under the MISA law.

The Sacrifice of Democracy Fighters is an Inspiration

Bikaner West MLA Jethanand Vyas said that the history of the Emergency is not just an event, but the biggest lesson in protecting democracy. He emphasized that every party worker should be aware of its reality.

Dungargarh MLA Tarachand Saraswat described the sacrifice of the democracy fighters as a source of inspiration for every generation. He stated that we must always remain vigilant and dedicated to protecting democratic values.

Experiences Were Shared

During the program, the MISA detainees also shared their experiences. Many fighters, including Moolchand Solanki, Brahmanand Gehlot, Virendra Singh Yadav, and Daulal Gehlot, recalled the struggle of that era.

They recounted how they endured torture and remained steadfast in their principles for the defense of democracy. Their experiences infused new energy among the attending workers.

The purpose of this program was to make the new generation aware of the truth of that dark period, so that in the future, no government would dare to tamper with the Constitution and democracy. A large number of BJP officials and workers were present at the event.
