Rajasthan Political Appointments: Vacant Posts to be Filled
JAIPUR | After a long interval of about 11 months, the process of political and constitutional appointments has once again begun in Rajasthan. Recent significant appointments by the state government have intensified the buzz in political corridors.

These appointments have raised hopes among party workers and leaders that vacant posts in various boards, commissions, and academies will also be filled soon.

Appointment Process Resumes

The state government has made new appointments to the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) and the Board of Secondary Education. Prof. Santosh Anand and Dr. Deepak Kumar Sharma have been appointed as members of the RPSC.

Meanwhile, Hanuman Singh Rathore has been given the responsibility of Chairman of the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education. With these appointments, the total number of political appointments has now reached 12.

Previously, the government had made appointments to nine other boards and commissions, with the last one being Arun Chaturvedi as the Chairman of the State Finance Commission on August 1, 2025.

Why the Pace Quickens After 2.5 Years?

It has been a general trend in Rajasthan politics that any government avoids making political appointments in its initial years.

Typically, these appointments gain momentum only after the government completes two and a half years of its term. The BJP government has now crossed this milestone.

It is believed that the government will now focus on filling the vacant posts to satisfy senior party leaders and workers.

All Eyes on These Key Posts

The top posts in nine major commissions and institutions, including the Lokayukta, have been vacant for a long time. The High Court has had to intervene several times due to the non-appointment to these posts.

Additionally, important posts like the 20-Point Program and Coordination Committee, Rajasthan Khadi and Village Industries Board, and Rajasthan State Agro Industries Development Board are also vacant.

The previous Congress government had given cabinet minister status to the chairpersons of these posts, which indicates their importance.

The Previous Government's Record

The preceding Congress government made over 100 political appointments during its tenure. Among them, four leaders were given the status of cabinet minister and more than 31 were given the status of state minister.

Many appointments were made just before the assembly elections, due to which some leaders could not even take charge because of the model code of conduct.

Congress's Political Attack

The state Congress has targeted the government over these new appointments. Congress has alleged that people associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are being placed in important positions. The party sarcastically remarked that now the youth should be more worried about Sangh-inspired selection lists than recruitment exams.

This statement has sparked a new debate in state politics, raising questions about the transparency and fairness of the appointments.

It will be crucial to see how the government proceeds with these appointments in the coming days and how it manages different factions within the party. These appointments could also impact the upcoming elections.
