The central government has sanctioned central assistance of ₹537.70 crore to Rajasthan under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, which will accelerate rural drinking water projects.
The state government has achieved a major success in its efforts to end the long-standing drinking water problem in the rural areas of Rajasthan. After effective advocacy by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the central government has further strengthened the resolve of 'Har Ghar Jal'.
The Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, has sanctioned a hefty central assistance amount of ₹537.70 crore to Rajasthan for the financial year 2026-27 under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0.
Receiving this special financial fund will give a new impetus to the ongoing pipeline and water purification projects in the rural areas of the state.
This amount released by the central government is actually being given as reimbursement for the additional expenditure incurred by the Rajasthan government from its own resources during the interim period between the end of the first phase and the start of the second phase of the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Budget Allocation by Area
According to the official approval of the central government, this entire budget of ₹537.70 crore has been divided into three main parts based on social and regional needs. Its objective is to ensure access to water for every deprived section of society.
For General Area
₹307.45 crore has been allocated to strengthen the infrastructure of general components in rural areas.
A special provision of ₹177.73 crore has been made for laying pipeline networks in Dalit-majority rural areas.
Scheduled Tribe (ST) Component
An amount of ₹52.52 crore has been secured to ensure water supply in the tribal and hilly areas of the state.
Rajasthan Sets a New Record
Jal Jeevan Mission's Mission Director, Rajan Vishal, stated that since April 1, 2026, the state government has set a new record in the effective implementation of this scheme. Clear instructions have been given to officials to show results directly on the ground, leaving aside paperwork.
Out of the 3,241 drinking water schemes that are physically fully ready in the state, 2,520 schemes will be dedicated to the public very soon in a phased manner through 'Jal Arpan'.
Additionally, old vouchers worth about ₹713 crore, which were not previously displayed on the national portal, have now been sent for live entry. Also, approval of ₹537 crore has been received for the one-time settlement (OTS) of 3,346 old schemes.
