Sridungargarh Clash: MLA Asks 'Were You Dead Then?'
Sridungargarh | The atmosphere heated up during a public hearing in Sridungargarh, Bikaner, Rajasthan. A fierce argument broke out between BJP MLA Tarachand Saraswat and Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) leader Vivek Machra in the presence of Cabinet Minister Sumit Godara. The point of contention was the delay in the construction of the proposed trauma center in the area.

Why the Uproar in the Public Hearing?

The issue began when RLP leader Vivek Machra reminded everyone of the promise made by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma regarding the trauma center. He stated that 6 people had recently lost their lives because the promise was not fulfilled.

At this, BJP MLA Tarachand Saraswat became enraged. He argued that the assurance was for July 2025, so how could two and a half years have passed? When a farmer pointed out that one year had already gone by, the MLA lost his temper.

He made a highly insensitive remark, saying:

Were you dead when you were drowned for three years?

Following this statement, Vivek Machra and his supporters became agitated, and the protest intensified. Seeing the situation worsen, the police had to intervene and move Machra back.

Minister Gives Assurance

Amid the chaos, Cabinet Minister Sumit Godara took charge. He called Vivek Machra back for a discussion and tried to calm the situation.

Minister Godara said that the incident in Sridungargarh was tragic and the government is fully committed to the trauma center. He assured that work is underway not only in Sridungargarh but also in other areas like Lunkaransar, and it will be operational soon.

A Series of Controversial Statements by Ministers

This incident is another link in the chain of controversial statements made by BJP leaders in Rajasthan. Earlier on June 11, the Health Minister had also made an insensitive remark.

On the issue of kidney failure in pregnant women at PBM Hospital, he had defended the doctors by asking, "Did they come walking or dancing?"

The Congress had reacted sharply to this comment. State President Govind Singh Dotasra demanded the minister's resignation, while Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Juli called it an insult to motherhood.

These incidents have raised questions about the state government's image. Public representatives are expected to show restraint and sensitivity on platforms like public hearings, but such statements are further fueling public anger.
