Approximately 60 fans were allocated tickets without any payment.
FIFA acknowledged the error and cancelled all incorrectly priced orders.
Affected fans have been given the opportunity to purchase the tickets at the correct price.
Zurich | Football's global governing body, FIFA, has faced a major technical glitch in its ticket sales for the 2026 World Cup. This error allowed several football fans to purchase tickets without any payment, causing an embarrassing situation for the organization.
FIFA's Technical Glitch and Its Impact
A technical issue occurred on FIFA's official ticketing website on May 21. Due to this glitch, the price of some tickets was displayed incorrectly at checkout.
As a result, transactions for several fans were completed at a zero amount, and they were allocated tickets for free. FIFA has since acknowledged this mistake.
According to FIFA, approximately 60 fans were affected by this issue. The organization has contacted the affected fans to clarify the situation.
FIFA stated, "This was a technical error, and the actual price of the tickets was not displayed correctly in the system. The tickets purchased by the fans will be secured, and they have been invited to pay the correct amount."
This message was sent to the affected fans on June 3, mentioning the payment-related problem.
Incorrectly Priced Tickets Cancelled
An alleged email related to the matter has also surfaced online. It states that under the general sales rules, all ticket orders with incorrect pricing have been cancelled.
FIFA has clarified that if any payment was made for these orders, a full refund will be issued. This step has been taken to ensure transparency.
According to the email, the cancelled tickets will remain reserved in the fans' FIFA ticketing accounts for seven days. During this period, they can complete their purchase by paying the correct price.
Ongoing Debate Over High Ticket Prices
This incident comes at a time when there is already a significant debate over the high prices of FIFA World Cup 2026 tickets.
In April, tickets for the final match on FIFA's resale website reached prices as high as $2.3 million per ticket, which shocked fans worldwide.
This new glitch raises further questions about FIFA's ticketing process. The organization now faces the challenge of maintaining its reputation and regaining the trust of its fans.
