The bail hearing for accused Lachhu Devi in the Ganpat Singh murder case has been postponed for a week. The High Court questioned arguments based on the old chargesheet.
A significant development has occurred in the high-profile Ganpat Singhmurder case. The hearing on the bail plea of the main accused, Lachhu Devi, in the Rajasthan High Court on Thursday has been postponed for a week. The court raised serious questions about the old chargesheet being presented during the hearing.
During the hearing on Thursday, the court objected to why arguments were being made based on the old record when the chargesheet had already been sent back. The court deemed this inappropriate and directed the submission of updated records.
The advocate appearing for Lachhu Devi, citing the old chargesheet, argued that she had no role in the case. He also stated that she had no connection with the co-accused, Surendra Singh.
In response, the court explicitly asked what the justification was for arguing based on the old chargesheet when revised documents in the case are available.
Directions to Submit Updated Records
The advocate for the opposing side mentioned published news related to the case and the revised chargesheet before the court. He urged that the hearing should be conducted based on the latest records only.
According to information, the revised chargesheet was summoned on June 16 and was presented before the court on June 20. Subsequently, the court directed the submission of a report on the relevant documents and postponed the bail plea hearing for a week.
Meanwhile, proceedings in the case have also moved forward in the lower court in Jalore. The Judicial Magistrate has thoroughly reviewed the chargesheet, case diary, and other documents submitted by the police in the State vs. Gajendra Singh and others case.
Trial to Proceed Against Accused
After reviewing the records, the court has taken cognizance against the three accused for murder and other charges prima facie. The court held that there are sufficient grounds to prosecute the accused based on the available evidence.
Case Transferred to Sessions Court
Along with taking cognizance, the case has now been sent to the Additional District and Sessions Court (ADJ), Bhinmal, for trial. The regular trial of the case will now take place in the Sessions Court. The accused, Gajendra Singh and Varagam, have been sent to judicial custody.
Notably, the Ganpat Singh murder case has been a topic of discussion for the past several months. All eyes are now on the next bail hearing in the High Court and the trial set to begin in the Sessions Court.
