South Gujarat | Due to the active monsoon in South Gujarat, heavy rains are occurring, leading to widespread waterlogging. Because of this torrential rain, rivers in many districts of Gujarat are in spate, and the situation in low-lying areas has become serious due to flooding.
Record-breaking rain in Valsad
According to the Meteorological Department data, the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours was recorded in Umargam tehsil of Valsad district, where 11.26 inches of rain fell. Over 14 inches of rain were recorded in Waghai of Dang district, and more than 15 inches in Vansda.
River water levels above danger mark
In Navsari district, continuous rain has raised the water level of the Purna river to 24 feet. Meanwhile, the water level of the Kaveri river has reached 27 feet, which is well above its danger mark of 19 feet.
The administration has advised people to remain vigilant and is closely monitoring the situation. About 218 internal roads have been closed.
Flood-like situation in Surat and Navsari
In Surat, the overflowing of the Doswada dam has created a flood situation in the Mindhola river. More than 50 houses near the Civil Court area in Bardoli town have been submerged.
Minister Naresh Patel has appealed to the people to move to safer places, stating that the situation in Navsari could become more difficult than yesterday. The administration has evacuated people from the affected areas to safer locations.
Warning for tourists
A strong flow of water is being observed at the famous Gira Waterfall on the Ambika river in Dang district. In view of this, the administration has banned tourists from going to the waterfall. People have been urged to stay away from rivers, waterfalls, and low-lying areas.
Meteorological Department's Alert
The Meteorological Department has issued a detailed forecast for Gujarat for the next six days. On Thursday, heavy to extremely heavy rain is likely in Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli in South Gujarat.
On Friday, extremely heavy rainfall is predicted for Panchmahal, Dahod, and Mahisagar districts, while many other districts may also receive very heavy rain.
