The 78th martyrdom day of Param Vir Piru Singh was celebrated as 'Shaurya Divas' in Jhunjhunu.
Families of brave soldiers, including Kirti and Vir Chakra winners, and 51 veeranganas were honored at the ceremony.
Speakers urged the youth to consider soldiers as their role models and called for an end to casteism in society.
Piru Singh was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his indomitable courage in the Tithwal sector during the 1948 Indo-Pak war.

The land of heroes, Jhunjhunu, paid tribute to its immortal son and the nation's highest gallantry award 'Param Vir Chakra' recipient, Company Havildar Major Piru Singh Shekhawat, on his 78th martyrdom day on Saturday. The occasion was celebrated with full dignity as 'Shaurya Divas' in the city.
Grand Event at Martyr's Memorial
Under the aegis of the Lions Club, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Shaheed Piru Singh Circle in Jhunjhunu city. This was followed by a grand Shaurya Divas ceremony at the martyr's memorial, where District Collector Dr. Arun Garg and many other dignitaries paid floral tributes to the immortal hero.
During the ceremony, the families of heroes who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation were honored. These included the relatives of Shaheed Piru Singh Shekhawat, as well as the families of Kirti Chakra recipient Mahendra Singh and Vir Chakra recipient Captain Ayub Khan.
Additionally, 51 veeranganas were honored for their sacrifice and dedication by being draped with shawls and presented with mementos.
Speakers Delivered Inspiring Messages
Several speakers shared their thoughts and inspired the youth at the event.
'Consider Soldiers, Not Criminals, as Role Models'
Addressing the youth, Yashvardhan Singh Shekhawat said, "Our role models should be the brave soldiers who take bullets on their chests for the country, not any criminal." He also gave tips to avoid dangers like cybercrime and 'digital arrest'.
Shaurya Chakra recipient Brigadier (Retd.) Jitendra Singh Shekhawat said, "Just as there is no casteism in the Indian Army, we must also eradicate casteism from our society." He announced that his foundation would also provide coaching to ex-servicemen for the RAS Mains examination.
'Martyrs Never Die'
Former IAS Rajendra Singh Shekhawat stated that martyrs live forever in the hearts of generations through their ideas and tales of valor. District Collector Dr. Arun Garg also saluted the heroic land of Jhunjhunu.
The Indomitable Courage of Tithwal's Warrior
Born in Beri village of Jhunjhunu, Piru Singh joined the 6 Rajputana Rifles in 1936. On July 18, 1948, he was seriously injured while attacking enemy bunkers in the Tithwal sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Despite his injuries, he killed several Pakistani soldiers and attained martyrdom after being shot in the head.
The speakers also expressed pride that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has named an island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as 'Piru Singh Dweep', a true tribute to this immortal martyr.
