Jaipur | A national seminar was organized in Jaipur to commemorate the 200th year of the country's first Hindi newspaper, 'Udant Martand'. Organized by the Grassroot Media Foundation, the event reflected on the glorious journey of Hindi journalism and its future challenges. Young journalists were also honored during the event.
Fundamental Ideas of Journalism are Essential
The keynote speaker of the ceremony, renowned satirist Yashwant Vyas, called the honoring of journalists a commendable initiative. He said that it encourages good journalism.
"We must always remember our fundamental ideas, as they pave the path to success."
Vyas also highlighted the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in today's era. He stated that we need not fear AI, but rather learn from it and move forward.
Special guest and senior journalist Padam Mehta addressed the young journalists at the event. He said that journalists should strive to bring relief to the common people through their news.
Mehta emphasized that serious journalism is an act of complete dedication, requiring deep commitment and hard work.
Contribution of Journalism in the Freedom Movement
In the inaugural session, Prof. N. K. Pandey, Vice-Chancellor of Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication, shed light on the 200-year journey of journalism.
He explained that newspapers and magazines had a huge contribution to the freedom movement. Literary magazines also indirectly provided significant support to the freedom struggle by enriching the vocabulary.
Senior journalist Gyanesh Upadhyay stated that the existence of journalism will never be in crisis; it will always thrive. He mentioned that today, other regional languages are also adopting the Devanagari script, leading to the continuous development of Hindi.
Ethical Use of AI and Felicitation Ceremony
A technical session on the ethical use of AI was also held during the seminar. Subject matter experts Pradeep Bidawat and Alok Anand provided practical information on the better use of AI tools in media.
On this occasion, Hinglaj Dan Charan of "Political Panchayat" was honored in memory of the late journalist Shyam Acharya.
Similarly, Omprakash of Dainik Bhaskar Digital was also honored for his outstanding work in memory of the late Shrigopal Purohit.
This seminar not only commemorated the history of Hindi journalism but also showed a new direction for the future. Many well-known personalities from the media world and a large number of students were present, making it a successful and meaningful platform for dialogue.
