Dasheri and Langra mangoes priced at ₹20 to ₹60/kg.
Arrivals from Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat have decreased.
JAIPUR | The sweetness of mangoes has now increased in the fruit markets of the capital city, Jaipur. The bumper arrival of Dasheri and Langra mangoes from Uttar Pradesh has led to a sharp fall in prices. Hundreds of tons of mangoes are reaching Muhana Mandi daily, bringing joy to mango lovers.
Muhana Mandi Buzzing with UP Mangoes
According to fruit traders at Muhana Mandi, the arrival of mangoes from Uttar Pradesh has boosted the market's vibrancy. Approximately 500 to 600 tons of mango consignments are reaching the market daily.
This includes the famous Dasheri and Langra mangoes from regions like Lucknow, Farrukhabad, Bareilly, and Malihabad. This bumper arrival has directly impacted the wholesale prices of mangoes.
Traders reported that prices have decreased by about 30 percent, with expectations of further price drops in the coming days.
Prices of Various Varieties Have Fallen
Currently, Dasheri and Langra mangoes are being sold in Muhana Mandi at wholesale prices ranging from ₹20 to ₹60 per kg. However, the price of good quality Golden Dasheri mangoes remains between ₹100 to ₹130 per kg.
About 90 to 100 tons of mangoes are consumed daily in Jaipur city. The rest of the mangoes are being sent to nearby towns and cities.
Arrivals from Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat Decrease
While the influx of mangoes from UP has increased, the quantity of mangoes coming from Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat has decreased.
The arrival of Safeda, Totapuri, and Sinduri mangoes from Andhra Pradesh has now reduced. Traders estimate that the arrival of Safeda mangoes will continue for about another 15 days. Similarly, the arrival of Kesar mangoes from Gujarat has also significantly decreased.
Why the Big Difference in Wholesale and Retail Prices?
Despite the drop in wholesale prices, mangoes are being sold in the retail market at one and a half to two times the price. A fruit trader from Lalkothi Mandi commented on this.
Rambabu explained, "Raw mangoes arrive at wholesale, and it takes 2 to 3 days just to ripen them. Additionally, transportation and other expenses are added, which increases the retail price."
In the market, Dasheri mangoes are selling for ₹50 to ₹100 per kg, while Langra is priced at ₹60 to ₹80 per kg. Varieties like Kesar and Hapus are still priced above ₹150.
Overall, the increased arrival of mangoes from UP has brought great relief to the general public. The impact of the fall in wholesale prices is expected to gradually reflect in the retail market, allowing people to enjoy mangoes to the fullest this summer.
