Dausa | The 26th death anniversary of former Union Minister and veteran Congress leader Rajesh Pilot will be solemnly observed in Dausa on Thursday. On this occasion, a grand tribute meeting has been organized at his memorial in Jirota, which will be attended by his son Sachin Pilot and several state and national level Congress leaders.

Tribute Meeting and Preparations

All preparations for the death anniversary program at the memorial site are in their final stages. MLA Deendayal Bairwa stated that the program will begin with offering floral tributes at his statue at the Rajesh Pilot Memorial in Bhandana.

Following this, a tribute meeting will be held at the main memorial in Jirota, Dausa. An all-religion prayer will be organized at this meeting, and a two-minute silence will be observed in memory of the late leader.

Considering the heat, a large pandal has been set up for the convenience of the devotees. Coolers, fans, drinking water, and cold drinks have been arranged throughout the pandal.

Additionally, the Bandikui Town and Block Congress Committee will also observe his death anniversary as 'Prerna Diwas' (Inspiration Day) at Rajesh Pilot Bhawan at 8:30 AM on June 11.

From Rajeshwar Prasad to Rajesh Pilot

Rajesh Pilot was born on February 10, 1945, in Vedpura village of Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. His real name was Rajeshwar Prasad Bidhuri.

After completing his education at Meerut University, he joined the Indian Air Force as a pilot officer on October 29, 1966.

In 1979, while he was posted as a Squadron Leader in Jaisalmer, he resigned from the Air Force at the behest of his friend and former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, and entered politics.

An interesting anecdote is related to his name change. When he went to file his nomination as a Congress candidate from Bharatpur in 1979-80, local workers suggested he adopt the name 'Rajesh Pilot', which became his identity.

An Influential Political Career

Rajesh Pilot made a spectacular start to his political career by winning the election from Bharatpur in the 7th Lok Sabha. After this, he made Dausa, Rajasthan, his political base.

He was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Dausa Lok Sabha constituency for five consecutive terms starting in 1984. He was known as a strong supporter of farmers, laborers, and the common people.

In his long political career, he held several important positions. He served as the Minister of Surface Transport from 1985-1989, Minister of Communications from 1991-1993, Minister of Internal Security from 1993-1995, and Union Minister of Environment from 1995-1996.

Rajesh Pilot tragically died in a car accident near Bhandana village near Jaipur on June 11, 2000, at the age of 55. His death left a void in Indian politics, but his legacy lives on through his son Sachin Pilot and his supporters.
