Sanchore: Students Lock School Demanding Upgrade
Sanchore |The demand to upgrade the Government Upper Primary School in Virole Chhoti of the district to secondary and senior secondary level has gained momentum. In support of their demand, students and local villagers have started an indefinite sit-in protest by locking the main gate of the school.

Protest for School Upgrade

The protesting students and villagers state that they have been demanding the upgrade of the school to the 12th grade for a long time.

Regarding this demand, they have now locked the main gate of the school and are sitting on a dharna.

Large Number of Students Affected

The protestors mentioned that in the current academic session 2026-27, 386 students are enrolled and studying in the school.

It is one of the schools with the highest enrollment in the area, yet it is being ignored.

Students Forced to Drop Out

Villagers expressed concern that due to the lack of a secondary school in the village, students, especially girls, are forced to drop out of their studies midway.

They reported that in the last session alone, 21 out of 72 students who passed class 8 dropped out because no secondary school was available for them.

Talks with Officials Fail

Upon receiving the information, officials from the education department arrived at the scene. The officials tried to reason with the protestors and explain the situation.

However, the students and villagers remain firm on their demand.

Vow to Continue Agitation

The protestors have clearly stated that their agitation and sit-in protest will continue until an official announcement is made to upgrade the school to the 12th grade.

They said that schools with lower enrollment are being upgraded, while this school with the highest enrollment in the district is being continuously neglected, which will not be tolerated.
